Well as somebody who lives downtown and has to put up with these bums every day it is my business. You stop giving them money on the corner they stop asking for money on the corner and hanging out there.

Not really, wasted money is wasted money, I don't care if it's on liquor or a tree. You can't possibly defend a homeless guy buying a Christmas tree.

giving these people money is worse than a strongly worded facebook post or changing your picture to the current trendy social issue. If you want to do it right, bring one of those under-the-overpass dwellers into your home on Christmas for dinner with your family.
For the record, I never will. I volunteered at Ozanam Inn on Sundays for almost a year. As a direct result of my attempt at helping others, I hate my fellow man; 99.9% of the homeless choose to be there.
