They are out in force in Kentucky and the sound is deafening. Brood 14 is also called the Bourbon brood as it is centered on bourbon and Tennessee whisky producing areas.

BTW today is statehood day for both states. Kentucky in 1792 and Tennessee in 1796.

You must have never dealt with flying termites like on the coast.

It’s worse than anything Moses sent

I probably fished out 20 of them this morning from the pool skimmer.

1. Bravo for your separation of true Kentucky bourbon and that corn liquor they make down in Tennessee.

2. What the hell is a lynx Rufus?

A lynx Rufus is a bobcat or more properly known as a Wildcat.

Tennessee whiskey isn’t bad. It uses the Lincoln County process and does not use new charred white oak barrels. If bourbon didn’t exist we might drink it and say this is good. But Bourbon does exist and we know better.

There’s a small lake behind my house and this time of year it’s deafening outside at night. Just a wall of noise from 100s of different critters.

Drove the entire Bluegrass Parkway on my way back from Ohio to Louisiana yesterday and heard them loud and clear several times. What a beautiful drive though.

I can vouch for that, I drove up I65 from Birmingham to Huntsville in May of 2024 and was astounded (actually was kind of scary) by the loud roar of what sounded like millions of Cicadas in the trees alongside the interstate.

I remember being outside my house one evening and standing there wondering what the hell that sound was. Actually kinda sounded like some gargantuan mechanical device. Took me a moment to realize it was the Cicadas.
