Stand, kneel, sit. Rinse and repeat. I went for 24 years. She's probably pissed to go through that BS and I don't blame her.
You went for 24 years and have no understanding of why you stand and kneel? Pretty sad if you ask me.

What does that even mean? Is there a special section of heaven for the really really good catholics? It's not a contest. There is no reward for being a better catholic.
We are all Christians and if splitting time between catholic/protestant churches is what's best for his family then that's what he should do. Our reward is heaven and you don't have to be catholic to get there.

She only needed to go once to see the farce that it is. The Catholic mass is the most boring hour of your week. At least non demoninal has some rhythm, stories and a point. I'd never subject my kids to Catholic mass.
There are good and bad priests. Some give very good, meaningful homilies. Far from boring. Some are boring. Find a priest who does a good job. There are several in the Baton Rouge area that give very good homilies.

You’ve only been catholic for two years and you’re going to potentially give up on a relationship because of some hyper technical pharisaical legalism dreamed up by some guys in sparkly robes in Italy? Don’t do that brother. I believe our Lord had some things to say about that kind of thinking.
Agreed. “This is my body… This is my blood” (Luke 22:19–20) and “unless you eat… and drink… you have no life in you” (John 6:53–56).
Since Protestant ministers aren’t “real” ministers, they don’t have a real Eucharist.

Part of being a Catholic is attending mass every week

I went for 24 years and no longer waste my time going back.
God doesn't care if I go. The only ones that do are those that go. "Look at me. I'm going to church so everyone will see me." If I can't get to heaven because I don't like church, then God isn't worth my time.

A Catholic/Protestant marriage is not interfaith.

You do realize your priest has no greater “power” over the communion than your SO’s church right?
You can bless bread, in your own home alone with your GF, and it be representative of the communion process. That’s what your priest is doing. He has no greater authority than you.
You’re partaking in the body and blood of Christ at both churches. You do you, but what building you’re in shouldn’t matter. Most non-denom churches will say “if you’re a believer in Jesus….take communion with us”
So are you a believer in Jesus or your church/priest?
I’m a Christian but when I visit the Catholic Church, I participate in communion. That being said, being on the same page in faith is important to me personally. You need to decide how important it is to you.

I know plenty of catholics who don't attend mass every week. Are you implying that they aren't catholic if they don't attend mass every week?

They are catholic if they’ve been baptized and confirmed in the faith, but they aren’t “practicing” Catholics if they’ve aren’t going to mass every week.

So "halfass catholic" = not a "practicing" catholic?
Are they allowed into heaven. Regular heaven or the special section for "practicing" catholics? I'm just trying to figure out the rules here so I can make it to heaven. And if there's a special section for the "practicing" catholics then what are the perks so I can weigh the benefits vs. going to mass every Sunday?

If you go by the teachings of the church, no
Look, you’re clearly not Catholic and do not understand Catholicism and that’s okay.
If you are a devout Catholic, which the OP appears to be, you’re not going to be “okay” with skipping mass every other week. And that’s fine, it’s very likely that devout Catholics won’t have to make that “compromise” because it’s very likely that they’ll just marry another Catholic.

I have been catholic for 40+ years and I probably know more about this religion than you do. But its people like you who claim to be "good" catholic or "practicing" catholic and you have no idea what it actually means. You throw around words like "halfass catholic" because a person doesn't go to mass every single Sunday and you act like you are better than others because of the amount of mass you attend and how much money you give to the church or how many rosaries you say. I find it comical that you are on here lecturing others on catholicism when you can't even answer simple question about your faith.
The "teachings of the church" do not supersede the teachings of Christ. And nowhere in the bible or the "teachings of the church" does it say that people who don't go to mass every Sunday won't be allowed into Heaven which is what you are insinuating. If I'm wrong please show me where it says anything like that in "the teachings of the church" whatever that is.

Failing to attend mass results in your soul being in the state of mortal sin.
....until you get that penance and reconciliation through a priest
And this is one of the reasons I will never be Catholic.
To be Roman is to be bound by much more than Scripture ever allowed.
Here is the exact text from CCC 2181:
quote:
The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.
Grave sin refers to objectively serious matter (CCC 1857–1859).
For a sin to be mortal (fully cutting off sanctifying grace), it requires:
1. Grave matter (which deliberate absence from Sunday Mass fulfills),
2. Full knowledge that it is gravely wrong,
3. Deliberate (full) consent of the will.
Furthermore,
If someone is in mortal sin, they must not receive Holy Communion until reconciled through this sacrament (unless there's a grave reason and no opportunity to confess — CCC 1457).

I’m just relaying what the Catholic Church teaches, you can agree or disagree but that wasn’t my opinion on the matter, it’s the belief of the church. And if you are a devout Catholic as the OP appears to be, then I would assume that he follows the beliefs of the church and therefore would not be “okay” with skipping mass continuously. I’m not having a debate on the merits of what the church teaches, only relaying what they teach.
