It’s less about the two of you and more about the kids. Are either of you hung up on which denomination the kids are raised in? If you both insist on your own religion, you have a problem.
All 3 kids were raised Catholic.

Now one is Baptist and 2 are non-denominational.

This is such a ridiculous statement that I hear a lot. If you’re a Catholic you should be ashamed of yourself
Convert Catholic much?

Judge yourself hoss. Less is more, you are not a Doctor of the Church.

You hear it “a lot” because a bunch of folks regularly reinforce the stereotype.

Such as yourself.

Is sounds like you are locked on religion and not Christianity. Both churches are Christian and they worship differently. But they both worship our Lord and Savior. Jesus was a Jew. When His disciples came to him and complained that others outside their group were preaching in His Name. He told them not to admonish them.

Well, I was raised Catholic. What you are describing is communion in a Protestant church. The Eucharist is a step farther through transubstantiation.

No, communion in this particular church is strictly a symbol—according to them. If they believed it to be any more than that, they would offer it every time they gathered and not just a few times per year. They also wouldn’t instruct you to throw away your cup as you leave the building if they believed it held the true body and blood of Christ.

One of the reasons my serious college girlfriend and I didn't work out was because she and her family were very Catholic, and I was not willing to commit to converting. I was willing to go to mass every week, raise our family Catholic, and remain open to the idea of conversion, but she wanted a hard commitment to it then and there. Her father had converted before marrying her mother, and her brother-in-law had also done it before marrying her sister, so it was kind of an expectation, I guess.

Believing in one, Holy, Catholic and apostolic Church and then shaming people who convert to said Church is an interesting mix

This is my issue with many Catholics (definitely not all) and my former self. Too many worship Catholicism over Jesus.

Yes, all religions have their issues but I'm keeping it relevant to the thread here.

A symbol of what? Do you not believe in what is being symbolized?

I am saying this as a friend and a brother in the faith - you need to really give some serious thought to whether you are being motivated by genuine faith which is of the Holy Spirit, or by spiritual pride which is of the evil one.

It can work if both of you are willing to compromise. Remember you're both Christian and when it comes to core values you have far more in common than not. Why can't y'all alternate churches?

However, mass each Sunday is a must for me,

I'm sure there a lot more to the story but this one statement kinda sounds like you're the one unwilling to compromise.

Amen. I was guilty of the latter years ago.

How so? I’m being motivated by where I feel closest to Christ—which for me happens to be the Catholic Church.

Christ left but one instruction. "As oft as ye do this do it in remembrance of me." Any other rules are stumbling blocks added by the religion.
