Child and teenage obesity levels have risen ten-fold in the last four decades, meaning 124m boys and girls around the globe are too fat, according to new research.

Which of you baws wanna admit to having fat kids? What do you let them get that way? Are you fat yourself?

Roughly 20% of American children and teens are overweight or obese. Disgusting and unacceptable.

This shite needs to stop.

Fat kids are 100% the fault of the parents.

Parents with fat kids should have to wear ankle monitors like parolees until the child is back to a normal human weight. Not for any actual tracking purposes, just as a constant reminder of what they've done to their child.

I am curious where parents of fat kids stand in the healthcare debate too.

Let's see.

When I was a kid there were no cell phones, no Playstation or X Box, no personal computers, etc, etc.

We had to drag our asses outside every day and create our own activities. We played sandlot baseball and football all the time.

I wonder if those differences could have anything to do with this growing problem.

My cousin (offshore baw) and his Amazon wife have 3 of the fattest kids I've ever seen.

Ask them if they play any sports. Nope.

Constantly walking around with iPad and iPhone.

Yep. A lot of parents these days deal with their kids by sticking a tablet in front of them instead of engaging them in activities.

I believe this. Ate a late lunch at chilis the other day. (Trashy I know)

Family of 6 comes in. They sit at a table for six. Then get moved to an 8 top. There was thousands of pounds sitting at this table. Thousands. Each one was upwards of 450 if not more. Even the kids. It was sad really.

Our diets / consumption of processed foods ( especially in America ) has drastically changed over the past 40 years as well...the most impactful culprit in my opinion

0 for 3 here of mine experienced childhood obesity

Making them stay active, portion control, and dictating menu items when they were under my direct control are my best guesses as to that success.

And your generation is still fat. Might be worse now but most fat kids now have fat parents

Moms back to work = more fast food.
Technology causes kids to stay indoors.

All boils down to laziness. Fat parents don’t give a damn bc they’re too lazy to care for themselves much less their kids. They’re fat bc of the diet they keep, and hand down to the kid. They usually don’t cook meals and usually buy junk at stores.

Well they eat foods loaded with nitrates, phosphates and sugar. This is mainly because women can't cook and they'd rather just eat out or get them McDonald's. These kids also don't get enough exercise. Which is relative to what they see their parents do. Since mom and dad aren't doing they aren't going to do it either

My generation isn't the one raising the fat kids right now.

BTW, I'm 6'2", 205. My son is 6'6" 215. My wife is 5'8" and 140 and my daughter is 5'4" and 120. Not one fat person in the lot.

Then again, we are active people.

ETA: Guessed on wife and daughters weight but I'm close.

There are many issues that cause this. It is a mix of bad and unhealthy diet and absolutely no exercise.

When I was younger I ate unhealthy stuff but once dinner was over I was outside running and sweating and very active. Kids these days do nothing but sit on their butts on their Iphones, Ipads, Playstation and Xbox.

Parents need to shut these things off and make their kids go outside and get some exercise. As a society we have become very lazy and with a bad diet and no exercise this is the end result. We can't blame anyone but ourselves.
