If you don’t have to be outside, don’t': Chicago braces for brutal temperatures

LINK

Chicago is bracing for bitter cold nearing record-low temperatures this week.

One of the coldest air masses in years will drop temperatures to around 23 below zero by Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service, with a daytime high of about minus 14 on Wednesday and another plunge to minus 25 overnight

Wind chills could be as low as -55 tomorrow morning.

METRA Rail is lighting fires on their tracks near their switches to keep them from contracting.

Potentially life changing (saving) advice.

Back in 2013, I think it was, Chicago had a couple days of wind chills around -40, but the thought of -55 is disgusting. I live above a small format Target, so it'll be easy for me to get into there, if absolutely needed (it won't be).

Other than that, parts of the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area are expecting wind chills anywhere between -60 and -65 tomorrow.

Pretty awful to think about. The old and poor in those states have to be on edge.

Although I am familiar with MSP, you'll have to ask someone that lives there. Pretty sure SpartyGator does...?

Lived in Chicago for about three years and we had some -20+ wind chills but good lord...

Live about five hours south of there now and we're still expected to have -20 wind chills. Jesus, this ain't Siberia.

I guess I can post a photo of Chicago to WAFB. They may not notice the difference.

My friends in Minneapolis flew down to St. John on Saturday. Perfect timing.

I'm sure they would love a check in, if you feel so bad for them.

Never been to Chicago, so I don't know how humid their hot days really get, but didn't they have a heat wave in the past decade that killed a handful of people that didn't have air conditioning?

Brutally cold in the winter and killer heat in the summer? Yeah, frick that.

We just send in pictures of snow when we get a lot, say 12” or more.

I might have to try the old glass of water experiment tomorrow morning. You throw a glass of water in the air and it will freeze before it hits the ground. Most schools have been called off for two days.
