Check your credit reports for errors

Those wonderful Equifax folks, you know, the credit reporting company that let everyone's personal information get hacked? Yeah.... those guys.
I finally got around to ordering up a credit report. Hadn't needed to in many years. Found this on my record. Didn't recognize it. But there it was.
Someone had used my credit history, my social security, etc.. and secured a loan for $181,257. At least they've been making regular payments.
So now the fraud people are involved and investigating what/who this is. Once they have the information, I'm to file a police report later this morning. I've already contacted all three credit reporting bureaus and flagged my account. Am I missing something else I should do to secure my credit and personal information?

Signup for creditkarma. You'll see changes on a weekly basis.

Breh...
Something wrong with your money game if you don't check your credit report every month.
All major credit card companies offer a free credit report now. You could also do something like CreditKarma if you don't have another way to get a free report.

You should thank them for boosting your credit score by making 2 years of on-time payments.
And congratulations on the new house that you just found out you own.

Freeze your credit accounts

Seems like this is more of clerical error that the loan is being reported on your credit report, why in the world would they be paying the loan if it was fraud?

If married, your wife has a secret family you didn't know about.

I'm not always as diligent about it as I should be, but I try to pull a free version from annualcreditreport.com every four months to make sure everything is in order. Very fortunate for you that they're paying it and you caught it before they decided to stop.

I never thought of it that way before. I wonder if OP can sue this person for whatever equity they have in "his" house now, then turn around and sell it.

At least someone else has to listen to her nagging then

Did I say anything about credit scores?

Thanks. I'm sure my CFO and accountants can manage.

Nah. Just keep the equity and start charging them $1400-1500 a month in rent. Profit while building more equity
