?

Since the light is coming on intermittently, the first thing I would do is reset it. This can be done with a code reader and if you don't have one or know someone with one, try taking it to a place like Autozone

You can remove the positive cable from the battery for a minute and it will reset the codes.

I would get rid of it. Your transmission will go out soon too. My moms had one.

I’ve got a 13 Sierra and mine comes on and off, won’t allow me to remote start and then works again. I’ve heard you can clean something out and it’ll clear. Any truth to that? I’m in Texas and have to have it fixed so these assholes with pass my inspection.

On “Car Talk” on NPR, Click and Clack used to say, “Take a piece of black electrical tape and cover the light”. No foolin.

It looks like you can have it properly diagnosed at a dealership for less than $100. My GM product had the knock sensors go bad.. dealt with a fuel/combustion/ timing issue. Long story short, spend the hondo to really know the issue before you drop those K’s.

could also be time to change the timing belt/water pump.
That job aint cheap, but its better than having it go out and then getting it done

Fairly certain a gas cap issue will not trigger a p0008 code. It can make the check engine light come on but it would log a different code.

The code is what the code is. IIRC, mine indicated an emissions problem, and googling revealed the gas cap was a likely fix. To my surprise, it was. The symptoms were the same as the OP, no performance issues, just a light that would come on for days and then go away for days. It's been 8 months, so I'm calling it "fixed".

the gas cap isnt tight or the seal is bad

its the most common cause if the light goes on and off, real issues the light stays on. if the car can pull a vacuum seal on the gas tank then it signals the light to come on.

go to any auto parts store and have them do a obII meter check to see what codes show up. 10-1 you need a new gas cap or its just not being tightened all the way
