YT link to demo

For those who don't Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, it's a real-time translator language model built into the newest version of Chat GPT.

There have been other RT translators, but none this functional or part of a wider integration.

*ETA: Also, Sam Altman tried to have Scarjo voice the app, b/c he's obsessed with the movie Her. She refused, so he got a voice actor with an identical voice (allegedly) to do it, which may lead to ligitation.

The demoes are very impressive. I use CoPilot/CGPT everyday for work. I've had AI banned on the Home/Garden board because most everything I responded to could be answered with CoPilot and this pissed off whoever the admin was there. Anyway, people that are afraid of AI are missing out IMO. It has made me way more productive and the DIY results are a game changer.

JMHO though

She can sue all she wants. It's not her voice.

She even says so herself by claiming it sounds "similar".

I imagine lots of Boomer and old Gen X Judges are going to have major issues trying to fit AI stuff in with our current IP law/precedents.

Just as an aside.

I don’t think using AI in this capacity is an issue got many people.

It’s when the people programming the system use it will ill intentions and I’ve seen the movies someone always makes this situation go south!

The first popular translation service on the internet was called babelfish. I think it was on altavista?

Sorry but this exact reference was already done in Web 1.0 in like 1997

Absolutely! Because nothing says ‘cutting-edge’ like a bunch of Boomers and old Gen X Judges trying to shoehorn AI into our current IP law. It’s like watching someone try to fit a square peg into a round hole—just as an aside, of course. Meanwhile, the rest of us mere mortals can only dream of AI revolutionizing our jobs. Lawyers, doctors, engineers, school teachers, and even fast food managers—brace yourselves for the AI takeover!

ETA: I am GenX btw and most of us just don't GAF to change whereas Boomers are too egotistical to even try.

This is no more babelfish that whatever it was in 1978
Maybe let's stop calling things babelfish until it's a fish you put in your ear
I've seen Mexicans with a real time translator app on their phone for a few years now.

ChatGPT just needs to know how to say "it's important to remember.." and then lecture you about PC bullshite in every language.
That's it all it ever does for me

The current iterations of AI writing/chat/whatever may actually be worse than the current crop of actual "journalists". The articles written by the shite are glaringly obvious. It is like an English as a second language alien writes them.

It is actually worse than what passed for journalism, and the lack of legit editors, we had become accustomed to.
