Southwest, USAA and PetFlow - all legitimate and profitable businesses - why can't you (and I am sure there are a slew of others) not update your communication preferences in real time?

I changed my e-mail address on file with each of these companies more than two weeks ago. All changes were saved on their website. Yet, today - all three send communication to the e-mail address I prefer to no longer use.

Aren't we at a point with technology today that systems should be able to communicate with one another instantaneously?

Same applies for companies that you would like to have your e-mail address removed. It literally takes multiple attempts to unsubscribe. And again, these are legitimate and reputable companies.

Which company chaps your arse with the way they handle their e-mail communication?

It's not a tech issue, it's a business issue. Your email address is probably managed internally by multiple departments, marketing, customer service, etc. On top of that, most companies will use 3rd party email service providers for sending commercial email and possibly customer service email as well. So your request has to go through multiple filters and then be updated in multiple places.

Can these processes be automated? Yes. But that's the kind of thing IT departments would do and a lot of this is going through marketing and customer service departments where the most available resource they have to throw at problems are people. So if it's taking this long to update I'm guessing there's a person that has to manually update these change requests. If people changed their email addresses often enough then it might be worth the IT hours to automate things, but I think the amount of people changing their email address is low enough to keep it a manual process for many companies.

The United States Mint. Changing my e-mail with them is like pulling teeth out of a chicken.

Why would you need to change your address with the mint? Why would they even have your e-mail address?

I order silver proof sets each year, like other OT ballers.
