Stay in your lane, pizza guy. Nobody is concerned how it was done in your papíer maché home.

Merry Christmas.

This is our 4th Winter in this house and despite all the corners builders like DSLD and DH Horton cut to make these houses affordable, I must say these MFers are energy efficient as frick.

I've owned a variety of homes from shitty starter to solid brick 60s in Tara and even an incredibly built custom home in Natchez.

None of them come close to how energy efficient this house is.
We're gonna move back to Mid-City BR and buy an old house in a few years but will miss the low energy bills and very capable HVAC.

I’ve always installed fans from the attic down. Start with building a sufficient support in the attic, then mount a box, etc.

OTOH, there’s zero pride in craftsmanship anymore. Had a bathroom light that was always askew. Ended up taking it down while fixing something else. Found it was anchored into the PVC vent line going up from the sink. Apparently they hit (and nicked) the drain vent when drilling the hole for the light mount (which should have already been in place). Instead of fixing it, they screwed the mount into the drain pipe and moved on.

FWIW, this was a custom built home, not some DSLD cookie cutter.

Evidently once you had the "female part" (his words) installed on the ceiling, anytime you wanted to put up a new fan, you just had to slide it in and lock it in place. Everything would match up (wires) and that was it.

He told me GE told him they loved the idea, but he could run into problems because it would have to be universal. Every fan, from every brand, would have to have the "male" part.

Well you could design adapters for the major budget brands at Home Depot and Lowes like Hunter. You wouldn't have to bother with high-end shite b/c those are custom installs anyhow.
Adapters could be created for 4-5 brands and cost $10 in the ceiling fan department.

I love this idea, having installed/replaced about 18 ceiling fans in my life, including the time I shocked the ever-loving shite out of myself in Tara in 2005. FYI it wasn't my fault.

DSLD uses cheap stuff and that's not up for debate. But when you buy a DSLD home, you get a personal inspector dude who helps you out from construction to a 3 months after move in.

I bought a fan for my daughter's room that didn't use the ball. First one I installed like that.

Fans are so easy to install. Though the one in your image has the ball and the bracket. How was it not installed right?

I'm not a big fan of government interference, but isn't there a building code against this?
you want some permit inspector to look over and approve a homeowners work on installing a Lowes ceiling fan?
