Imagine how many 30-39 year olds that lost their jobs and watched their meager 401ks evaporate actually did it.
You've got 25+ years to recover it at that age. It would have been much more depressing if you were 63.

It has nothing to do with needing something or being weak minded. The constant doom and gloom, watching the economy crumble, and simple decisions like whether or not to send your child to school are now difficult. Routines are essential for people with depression and anxiety and many of those have been turned upside down. I've never met anyone with true anxiety and depression be triggered about not being able to go to a bar or go shopping. People are worried about their livelihoods and the health of their families.
Most of these points have nothing to do with the group that's in the OP.
And we aren't talking about people with real, clinical depression/anxiety. We have some even in this thread. That is hard, always. Of course this makes it worse and I feel for those people with real issues. That is not a majority of the population (and even "depression" metrics are often high. They are soft with the diagnosis, like most situations).
But this is a generalized survey of people 18-24 who might have suffered slightly less money to spend, some limitations on human interaction that they most likely ignored anyway, no travel and no going out to eat, and distance learning while in their pj's. They can get through this, and if they can't, again, maybe they need to re-evaluate a bit. Most of what we lost were just insignificant experiences (again, yes, some people lost family, but no more than in a typical year) that aren't related to real value and family (whatever that means to an individual - it doesn't have to be blood). (Again, yes, if you were literally alone, thousands of miles away from family, that's a different question).
Otherwise, then what we're seeing is "I need everything I desire and want available at all times, or I will be depressed and suicidal." That means we're letting our needs control us rather than us controlling our needs.

The reality is that most 18-24 year olds are selfish and many lack the coping skills to deal with the current state of the world. If someone truly contemplates suicide, they have real mental health issues. I've dealt with OCD and anxiety since I was a child. It can be debilitating and made even worse when people discuss if mental health issues are "real" or not.

I’ve been suicidal for 15 years. Working from home has actually helped my anxiety immensely. Still miserable

If they lack coping skills to deal with the current state of the world, they aren't "selfish", they need to take a long look at their parents and some other issues in society (like pushing everyone into college) for why they're that way.
This is all of that helicopter parenting combined with a society that has pushed young adults towards college instead of jobs rights out of high school. That's been bolstered by companies requiring shite like an Associate's Degree or Bachelors for jobs 20 years ago you could enter straight out of HS. We have delayed young adult development to the point that we've literally created a new "emerging adult" category in the same age range we're discussing.

That's no way to live. Get some help. I have been helped out a couple of times in the past.
not telling you what to do, just a suggestion from someone with experience who may be right back there again at some point
