The garbage truck hit an attenuator truck (the ones with the big rectangular box looking crash barrier on the back) first, knocked it overboard, and then rolled over on the police cruiser.

The driver or passenger in the attenuator truck was killed. The cop was still in his unit. Two people in the work crew or Good Samaritan drivers, I don't know which, jumped in after the attenuator truck driver/passenger.

Re: Ladders on the bridge piers

Nothing there. If you get to a pier, they're 3' or 4" in diameter, so there's no hanging on to one.

I'm pretty sure the bridge cops keep rope ladders and life rings in their trunks.

Ok, I missed that part. Looked like it was the one truck and cop car.

I drive it every work day. I love the drive. Sorry for the construction worker. I wonder what project they are working? I think the new tenth mile signs are up. That's gotta be a brother in law project.

I take back my criticism of the Causeway police. That truck driver clearly was speeding and distracted. Plows into the police unit and pushes the work truck over the side. Worker unaccounted for at this time. fricking a-hole.

How the hell do you know he was speeding? Are you an Internet speed expert? We're you there clocking him? Or can you expertly peg it from the one picture?

Glad you aren't a witness.

A truck that size doing the legal limit of 65 mph hitting a work crew that is STANDING STILL will do a massive amount of damage. i never really see large trucks on the Causeway bridge speeding--I know--I drive it 4 days a week for the last 10 years (reverse rush hour flow).

They are re striping both sides--all 48 miles and have been at it for 3-4 weeks now. They start at around 9am and go till about 3:30 or so.

Why would anyone be sitting in the attenuator truck? It's sole purpose is to take an impact.

I am saddened a crew worker was killed by accident here.

Looks like it was a crew worker, so I would think you're good. Sent up a prayer just in case for you
