Can they be domesticated once they’ve grown up feral? I always thought not, or maybe it varies.
Kittens? Absolutely.
My backyard cat popped up here as a kitten. Made friends with my dog so she got to stay and my dog really liked her. They liked to chase each other all over the yard. Then she would clean off my dog as she lay still. Couldn't break that up.
Glad I let her live as an outdoor cat. She has her turf and doesn't stray from it. She is housebroken. She comes in a lot but when I say let's go out, she goes right to the door. Doesn't jump on tables or countertops. Has her four spots in the house and that's it.
And she's managed to kill a bunch of moles although I wish she'd stop killing birds and squirrels.

Grabbing a a cat with your bare hands is a dumb idea. They bite and scratch.
Get a box trap and a cage. Keep the kitten in a cage until it become acclimated to you and your family, then gradually gain its confidence before you try and hold it.

I have a pair of these bad boys...
If worse comes to worse and the kitten doesn't domesticate I can always take it out to my mom's property. She has a farm with a few barn cats always hanging around for mice and moles.

Wise move.
A 10yr old’ish rolltide decided to take a feral kitten home from grandma one time. That little fella chewed me up as I got him to the car and put him in it (no cage). When I shut the door it found its way up under the dash of my mom’s car.
I panicked and it chewed my arse up again while I tried to get it out of the dash.
I got an arse whipping and chewed up (and out).
The cat stayed at grandma’s.

Cats are creatures of the night and roam the planet when dark.
Domestic cats aren't truly nocturnal, they are crepuscular. They are active at twilight. Cats have hunting opportunities during these 'shift changes' when creatures are on the move.

Oh for Pete’s sake don’t be a pussy. Why are you waiting?
Grab her and take her home. Just make sure your kid knows to be gentle with her. And don’t forget…..take the kitten to the vet to spay, shots and have her tested for leukemia and FIV. Calicos are loving and loyal cats. She’ll love all y’all for making her apart of your family.
