Carnival Spin-Off - Are Other Cruise Lines Better?

Took my first cruise last year on a Carnival ship. Great deal, but the entertainment was shite and the food was sub-par. My room was under the kitchen and all I heard was loud banging all day and night.
I've heard Carnival is the worst cruise line, is it fair to expect a much better experience on a better cruise line? What makes others that much better?

The real luxury lines all have balconys and suites, true gourmet food and the ability to get into most ports of the world. The ships have unique ports of call...

So is Carnival like the lost cost airlines of the Cruise world? You can get a cheap cruise but the amenities are not that great and they nickle and dime you for the extras.

The only cruise ship I have ever been on is the Crystal Symphony for a Mediterranean voyage.
We had a large cabin with an incredible balcony and a butler named Sebastian. Gourmet restaurants and no buffets.
I don't think I would take another cruise if it's not on this boat.
How do you expect them to go back to the farm after they've seen the lights from Gay Paree'?

Royal Caribbean, Carnival, & Norwegian are generally about the same.
Your experience will depend on the itinerary, length of cruise, and time of year as to the type of crowd the boat will have.
Just came off of RC and the food is no better than Carnival. Generally sub par especially if you're from the south. They are all beginning to nickel and dime you to death, answering to Wall Street instead of the customer.
Picking upper rooms with balcony is best, but as these cruises are becoming more affordable, you will probably have to step up to the next level - Oceania, Crystal, etc. with longer stays > 7 days to avoid YouTube moments at the buffet line.
