Career advice needed

I can’t wait for the legit responses incoming. In short, I’ve been in Process Operations/Lab Analyst positions for the past 18 years. I took some time off for family medical emergencies, but during my hiatus the unit has been decommissioned.
I have a few opportunities to get back into Operations, which I’ve always found pretty monotonous coupled with that inconvenient night/day shift rotation. I also have an opportunity to get into an outage planning position that would require some travel during projects.
Any advice from the OT that might be familiar with both positions?

You did see i mentioned it was an outage/turnaround planning position, right? Who has bigger truck nuts than an operator after a turnaround?

Turnarounds/planned outages seem to be getting more and more attention these days, so you probably have a higher ceiling and more visibility from management.

I've seen to many planners come and go to say that it's the way I would go. But, I hate that day/night rotation bad enough that I'd probably go that route.

Get a job working for an airline that offers reduced fare travel as a benefit. Work a soulless job but fly off for cheap to other places on weekends.

outage planning sounds more fun and non-monotonous than an operator or lab tech

I’m in almost the exact same spot. Former Operator now in the lab. I haven’t lost my job, but with two younger kids, and being worn out bc of the rotating shifts I’m ready to find something new.

Update for those interested:
I know a lot of people(specifically around the Gulf Coast) that are in a similar situation. I passed on a few opportunities to stay in operations or related fields to pursue a Project Management position. I’ve never had to work a position that required me to be mostly self-managed, act as a face for the company, or require some travel, so there are some uncertainties. I know I can be successful as an Operator, Analyst, or Unit Supervisor but my gut is telling me to step outside of what’s comfortable. Time will tell if this is a mistake
