Car selling question.

Selling my car to an individual.
The registration just expired and the new registration has not come in yet. I have the receipt showing I paid to renew. This was done before I decided to sell the car.
It is a cash sale. Is this going to cause any problems when we go to a notary to finish the deal?

Nope. You don’t have to have it registered to buy or sell. Only thing that matters is clear title.

Take the plates off of the car, this will force the new owner to do a change of title and register the vehicle under his name.

True this.
I sold a car to a "friend" once, he was gonna go straightaway and register the car, would turn in the plate for me!
4 months later I got an impound notice from a lot in Lake Charles that was accruing daily charges that I was responsible for, as the car was still registered to me.
After getting that taken care of, I had flags at the DMV to deal with.

And turn the plate into the DMV and get a receipt.

You can do it online. Print the receipt. Saves some time and plus, you can nail the old plate up in your garage like my grandpa did.
