Anyone who has worked for a dealership in any capacity may be able to help me out here.

I’m perusing my Autotrader app. Just checking out vehicles, pricing and whatnot. I’m not in the market, but I like looking.

I come across a listing for a used 2022 Sierra Denali with 19 miles on it. What would make someone change their mind on a truck with only 19 miles?

Also, if any of you have some good stories concerning said return of a vehicle in a short amount of time, here’s your chance to indulge us.

The baw's wife found out he financed it for 15 years and told him she would divorce him if he didn't bring it back.

That’s just low test drive miles. Sure it’s not the dealer selling it and not a private sale?

Used? If so, some dealers are basically selling to an employee then buying back. They can ask insane markups without catching shite from the manufacturer.

I ran into this recently while looking for a new truck. Everything is priced over MSRP right now and the factories don’t like the dealers marking the new ones up a bunch but a used one they can mark up as much as they want. At least that’s what several sales dudes told me.

Buyer's remorse. Impulse decision. Emotional decision. Not receiving the spouse's approval (or communicating intentions) for such a large purchase. Or finding out the true cost of insurance, gas, maintenance, and amount of interest paid after the smoke settles.

Those come to mind.

Somebody bought it with discount (employee plan) that probably gave them $8-10k off sticker. Immediately sells for profit to dealer who will also profit. I did this recently and made $17k

I recall a Monte SS getting traded in back in the 80's with a few hundred miles on it.

Guy didn't bother to check insurance before buying it. Or told his agent it was just a regular Monte before the VIN showed different.

That’s pretty low mileage for it to happen, but there are times when deals just go sideways. Not often, but once in a while. If the buyer has registered the vehicle and the dealer has to buy it back for whatever reason, it’s now a used car.

It's a broker. They order it from the factory and pay MSRP. Then they turn around and sell it for much higher. It's brand new, but since it's been titled, it has to sell as used.

Factories are trying to crack down on this, but brokers get around this by paying someone a few hundred bucks to order a car/truck, then when it comes in, they give them the money and take the car.
