My MIL was a life-long smoker...so lung cancer is a relatively natural consequence of her choices...still, it sucks. We all go sometime, and we don't get to choose how we go...but I'd bet that if people could choose...nobody would choose to go that way. I'm concerned about my MI-L and her fight ahead.

I'm sorry man. Be there for your wife bro because she is going to need your patience, strength and comfort.

I'm watching COPD slowly kill my mother and as it gut wrenching.

For those interested in more insight into the disease and the history in regards to treatment(s), pick up the book "Emperor of All Maladies". Incredible read. My mother died of cancer....wish I had read the book BEFORE she died.

Thanks for the recommendation...I'll check it out.

I'm amazed we can put a man on the moon but we can't cure cancer. In the same way JFK said, "We're going to the moon", I wish a political candidate would say, "We're curing cancer!". And slash NASA's budget until cancer is cured. Too many people are dying on Earth from a disease that we can cure. That's more important RIGHT NOW than sending shite up in space.

You want to solve cancer by cutting NASA's budget?

eh?

I'm amazed some folks still think it's as simple as this.

There is no one single isolated "Cancer." There are many types. "Cancer " is a generic term for cellular reproduction mechanisms gone wrong, and there are thousands upon thousands of ways for this to happen.

Think about it this way: there are about as many different ways that cancer can kill as there are for a human to kill you.

You can be shot with a 45, a 22, an AR-15, and Ak47, and the list goes on. You can be stabbed with a butcher knife, a steak knife, a Bowie knife, etc. you can be hit in the head with a hammer, a baseball bat, a pipe, etc etc etc. you can get run over by a bus, a truck, a train, a cab, etc etc etc.

That's how cancer is on a cellular level. It's not just one mechanism that you can fix.

But more importantly, prayers for the OP and his family.

Indeed, cancer is a motherfricker
