Why don't you call the landowner and ask them?
I'm sure if you haven't signed anything or put a deposit down they can't tell you shite, but you might piss them off.

you can change your move in date to whenever you want.....the landlord can rent it to someone else that is available to move in the date you said you would.

Call the lessor. If there is no contract signed then the agreement can be broken. This also goes for the lessor. The lessor can move on from you if he/she wants to find someone who can move in earlier. Call the lessor. It's that simple.
