GPA? Not necessarily. I graduated from SCLTC in Reserve with a 3.96 and it never seemed to make a difference to anyone when they asked about it. The interviews all went well, in my opinion, but I didn't get hired until two weeks before I graduated last spring. Some of my classmates are still looking. Some got hired before they graduated.

Dow in Hahnville is currently hiring. Someone told me 30 operators. There is a short online test when you apply. It's fairly easy.

Good luck!

I know a guy that banged a bunch of operator's and engineer's wives.

I was just testing at SCLTC last weekend for an internship. Do they not have a hands on training unit over there?

We have a fully operational methanol/water distillation unit on campus.

Yes, they do. They have 4 small labs in the back to show basic flows, heaters, coolers, pumps, DCS system, etc. In the front they have a large methanol/water distillation system. You can see some of it in this video Youtube

Some do when they look at transcripts ( on the very rare occasion they ask to see it if you have them with you) ... I always said it in my interview and had transcripts with me to back it up.

What are the hours and pay like for interns?
Don't know about interns? Most plants have a class you have to go through and you'll get paid hourly while in class.

How's the job market right now for operators?
There are probably 5-10 plants hiring a class every year here in the area.

What is your plant looking for right now? experience, degree or both?
Just depends. Our plant looks for a little of everything, but the biggest thing is attitude. Don't be afraid to point out your decencies but emphasis your willingness to learn

What are the best companies to work for?
All depends. To me
Shell
Exxon
Nuke- most can't pass the tests, but you can make more here than any of the others

Any chance I could get hired before I'm finished or am I wasting my time?
Idk? BTW biggest thing plants look at from the ptec school is attendance. Most don't give a shite about how well you did.

What should I expect when/if a get an interview?
Just be prepared.. Do some research online.. Google behavioral interviews.
