You really can't stop someone from committing suicide unless they require assistance. That law is aimed at preventing those who assist from being prosecuted. Obviously, safe-guards to prevent abuse are needed.

After all, we are such a noble species, no one would ever murder their family members just for financial gain or let them suffer in pain just because it's against their religion, or it's too much trouble to get involved. If (when) I fall out of remission and there is no viable treatment, I will most definitely take matters into my own hands.
