If you are using composite, don't butt them up next to each other. They tend to swell and shrink with heat and moisture. I had a few that bowed up and had to take them up and put them back down. Use something thin to act as a spacer between them when screwing them down.

If you use pressure treated 2 by 6's or any width, make sure you pay attention to the grain of the wood. Look at the picture shown a few posts back. That is the correct way to lay the boards. . Notice the arc is facing up in the grain that you can see on the end of the board. Also deck screws do a nicer job and are easier to use.

I would use composite decking. Costs more, but no maintenance and lasts forever. No splinters either.

I'd consider sinking those post.
I have an 18' x 18' deck I built 20 years ago I'd be happy to give to you. Still looks very nice, but after the recent flood its sitting on top my garden about 100' from where it sat pre-flood.

Concerned that they may rot. With as much rain as we get.
It hasn't really been dry around the house in a little more than a month and I have good drainage on my property.

I like big decks and I cannot lie!

False. You still have to clean it. Pine needles can stain it. They're great for a spot with no trees around but you still have to clean. Not as much upkeep as far as pressure washing followed by a seal.
