Building nerds: Detroit’s Renaissance Center to be partially demolished

I know this isn’t as flashy as a New York or Chicago Skyscraper, but it’s still a big symbol for that city, especially considering it housed GM. Apparently it has had tons of vacant space the last several years and it’s slated to be redeveloped by Bedrock, which opened the new Hudson’s tower. It seems that 2 of the smaller towers will be demolished and that portion redeveloped.

The new plans are pretty cool. Bold, but cool.
They have redone a huge part of the lake/river front right there. Still looks like some brutalist concrete parks though.
Maybe downtown stretches back that way with I-375 being converted away from an interstate back into a boulevard.

Are you talking about the two shorter buildings to the right? If so I've never noticed that they were part of the overall structure. The main part is the only building I recognize in Detroit.

Before GM bought it, the main tower was a hotel; IIRC, it was a Marriott. When it was built is was the tallest hotel in the world. It is funny to see the GM name on it because it was built with Ford's money.
You don't recognize the Fisher Building or the Guardian? The Guardian is arguably the most gorgeous Art Deco skyscraper in the world.
