What's the cost difference between a wood/gas burning fireplace and a slide in gas fireplace when building a new house? i would think the chimney on a wood burning fireplace would cost more right?

It costs more to have a chimney than not. If that's what your asking.

The framer won't typically charge you more. The flue for a vented will add more cost than going with a ventless fireplace. The exterior finish may cost a little more, but nothing significant.

A true masonry fireplace can run anywhere from 16k - 20k+. I would not be looking for the low bidder on this job.

So there's really three options. Not two.

Ventless, which is the cheapest.

Direct vent gas, which is a bit more than the ventless.

And then a true wood burning masonry fireplace/chimney. This will easily be more than $10k and will likely leak!

Chimneys are shitty af at heating. Wood burning stove ftw.
