Curious. I want all the features I want. But can I still negotiate? Or am I stuck with retail inventory at a local dealership?

They can locate one that's got what you want or you can order it, at least you used to be able to do that. Haven't bought a new car in a while.

Depends on the manufacturer. Not sure if inventory is still low though. That will determine how bad they want to deal.

It depends on how much they want to make a sale but if it’s not in inventory they’re not likely to want to order it

My business I order the basic work truck package. The dealer I work with knows when I am close to being ready to switch them out and places an order for the new work trucks.

Personal vehicle I just try to find something close to what I want on a dealers lot.

I believe if you go online to the manufacturer, like Ford, for example, you can build and if anything matches it nearby they will list it for you, or they will show you the next closest match.

Figure out exactly what you want. Surf car gurus.com for that exact vehicle nation wide.
Find the one within one days drive with the lowest price. Call and ask them to back the price of airfare off of the price.

If they do, buy it.

I did this and saved 5k in a new 4Runner. The sales folks were so happy they even bought me gas cards to pay for my gas on the drive back.
