A Brooklyn skate shop owner died Tuesday after skateboarding while hanging onto a truck, according to Gothamist.
Richard Oates, 32, was holding onto a Mack truck as it made its way down a Manhattan street when he slipped from his skateboard and was run over by the truck's rear wheels, according to the report.
An eyewitness told DNAInfo that the truck driver didn't immediately stop after Oates was struck and that bystanders stopped traffic to help him. NYPD sources told Gothamist that the driver stayed on the scene and that no charges have been filed. Oates was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In a promotional video for the shop he says, "I spent the past decade working in kitchens, and I'm taking a hiatus from it. We just had a baby, and we have a 3.5-year-old, so I wanted to be available as a father.

This last weekend I was leaving a pretty tall parking garage when a group of people went skateboarding around the corners down the building. I thought it was incredibly dangerous. It is a cramped garage, so it would be really easy not to see around a corner and get smacked by a car. Also, at spots there isn't more than a single metal cable to keep them from going off the edge of the garage if they wiped out. Stupid shite.
