Broke my left pinkie tackling someone at the last football practice before the first game of my freshman year in h.s. Finger got caught in a fishnet jersey and broke below the larger knuckle. Got taken to the doctor because it had to be set. They put a metal splint that wrapped around the knuckle on my hand for stability. I played the whole season with a hand pad and some tape over it. Had to go get it reset every week.

Broke the little toe on my right foot the first Monday morning after I turned 40. Stubbed it on the back of the door to my bathroom. Had been living there for six years. Figured, this must be what life after forty is like. I was right. Have fun while you're young boys & girls.

I broke mine the same way back in March. Never went to the doctor or anything because at the time I thought it was just dislocated. By the time the swelling went down enough for me to realize I had broken it, it had already started healing and I figured no reason to have them re-break it. It's a little crooked and the tip is droopy (LOL) but it's fully functional.

eta: I just used a metal splint I got at CVS for a couple weeks.

I can see the droopy part but it's not that obvious unless you would point it out

Yea I asked a couple people with this and they said put it in a sling and it will be ok in the end

Hell the DR tonight said it doesn't really fix it. It sounds like the surgery just tries to put it in a different position than it sits in after the break

Out of all of the times I have broken my hands, I only needed surgery once. That was when the bone behind my pinky knuckle was trying to poke out of the side of my hand and the ring finger one was trying to poke out the top.

I'd bet if you went to the LSU Health Center or somewhere that saw tons of those, they'd just give you a splint and some Lortabs

The weirdest thing with mine was that it never actually hurt bad at all. So that's why I thought I had only dislocated it. I kept waiting for the pain to kick in but it never did. I've broken a lot of bones and most of them, there was no doubt that it was broken, except for the pinky.

The pain is not bad.

The tightness of the swelling is more painful. I guess the pressure of the pinkie tip is what I feel the most. Like a bee sting IMO

The X-ray, even though I didn't see it, showed a fracture. I thought that was strange I never saw an X-ray. Just them saying, hey your going to see a specialist tomorrow.

Yea mine swelled up huge in minutes. Before it swelled up it was flopping around like crazy so maybe that should have tipped me off.

You had a knuckle fracture? Or you had a broken finger?
