Merry Christmas OT.

Broke my molar on some Buccees Beaver nuggets tonight. Pretty pissed to have happened on Christmas even but I digress. Don’t want to have to run to the dentist tomorrow and am hoping to wait til the 26th when things open back up. I’m just wondering if there’s any real danger to waiting? I’m not in any pain but it has exposed some of the dentin / blood vessels beneath.

Can any OT dentists weigh in? Am I gonna die?

If it doesn't hurt and it's not bleeding it's fine. Probably looking at a crown

If it's back far enough, just get it pulled. Nobody will notice and its a heckuva lot cheaper.

You’re good. You’ve got like 30 teeth or something.

I had that happen a year or so ago. I don’t believe it will be a problem to wait until after Christmas if you are in no pain. He is basically going to grind the frick out of it and install a crown. Don’t procrastinate on getting it fixed or you’ll have to get a root canal too.

If no pain just baby until you can get an X-ray and your dentist can evaluate it. You will be fine until then. It depends on the severity of the fracture. If minor probably root canal and crown. If the break is too far below the level of the gums/bone extraction/implant is the treatment.

brutal timing. same happened to me on those Cracker Barrel peppermint sticks (the soft kind to boot).

Mine was painful AF when it sheared. Ended up with a root canal a couple of days later. Good luck

You’re assuming he’s not a Bama fan.

OP. That sucks. Glad at least it isn’t painful. Good luck, baw.

I remember years ago when my drunk ex-brother-in-law, a dentist, used superglue on the tooth of a family member who broke a tooth on the holidays. Not recommending it, but . . . .

That’s an assumption. What if he’s from Alabama?

My guideline for emergency dental visit would be if you bite down, does that contact with the nerve in your tooth make your legs buckle and your eyes water.

If so, you may want to make that call.

I will say that it is a complete design flaw for humans to have such sensitive nerves underneath their hard enamel, stronger than bone, teeth. Why did you do that Lord?

Perhaps if you didnt have sensitive nerves you would try and chew shite your teeth couldnt handle and break them up. Maybe not as relevant now but back when we were chewing dinosaur bones.

Better design for us would be having teeth that always grow like crocodiles.

If no pain I would call on Monday. You are most likely looking at a crown but a root canal might be necessary.
