Teens shot on Tchoupitoulas Street were armed-robbery suspects, police say
The two teenagers found with gunshot wounds last week on Tchoupitoulas Street had actually just been shot by two men they had just robbed, New Orleans police say, and they are now wanted on armed-robbery charges.
Jason Ford, 17, and Germain Hurlston, 18, approached two men near Austerlitz and Tchoupitoulas streets shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, and robbed them of their belongings, according to a NOPD report on the case. One of the robbery victims, however, then drew his own pistol and shot Ford and Hurlston, who ran away to the 3900 block of Tchoupitoulas Street, where police found them, the report states.
Ford and Hurlston were taken to the hospital by the ambulance, treated for their wounds and released, the report states. Police detectives later learned of their identities as the robbery suspects, and warrants have been issued for their arrest on charges of armed-robbery. Police also found a gun at the shooting scene, the report states.
The robbery victims were not injured, and have not been charged in the shooting, the report states.
Further details were not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to call the NOPD Sixth District station at 658-6060 to speak to a detective, or CrimeStoppers at 822-1111 to leave an anonymous tip that could be eligible for a cash reward.

This has spurred NOPD to change their policy and unilaterally arrest all folks with gunshot wounds and make the victims prove their own innocence.
