They should be hiring those "pie in the sky" college students to fill these roles, how quick would they turn into MAGA-hat wearing conservatives?
My mom was a bleeding heart liberal all through her college years. Then one summer, she worked at a jail in Georgia. She has voted straight ticket Republican ever since.

People who want to add counselor/social workers to ride along with officers aren't talking about sending them out to deal with violent cases. Can we stop with that shite already?
They're talking about sending them out to deal with people with mental health issues to free up police for crimes they should be addressing. It literally prevents officers from being put in a position where they're firing on a mentally ill person. If it gets violent and you can't handle it at that point, you call the police in. This is no different then counselors working in psych wards. We physically handle people like that all of the time.
The misinformation on both sides is so fricking annoying.
How the hell can a 911 dispatch tell the difference in a mentally ill individual and someone strung out on drugs about to commit a crime?
Does your psych ward have weapons at the disposal of the mentally ill? Will the 911 dispatch be able to ascertain the degree of violence or non-violence from a emergency phone call?

Not every call is for a violent situation. Or even a potentially violent situation.
Every situation that I know of that is being rioted for involved resisting arrest. In my book, resisting arrest is a violent situation because you don't know what weapon or if that criminal has a weapon. Which is why they keep getting shot.
