Actually it's a holdover idiom from the French word "faire" to make or to do.

I went to a place and asked for an inspection sticker. They said sure. And I was like do you do the two year ones? The guy looked at me all strange. I was like they have the stickers good for 2 years. He then realized I meant brake tag and that they don’t do them.

People just need to stop getting brake tags.
I haven’t gotten a brake tag in years- and the cops never check when they pull you over.
If yours is expired, scrape it off, if you get a new car, never get one.
