Brake Tag / Inspection Sticker

I was refused an inspection sticker for having a minor crack in the windshield. Anyone, know an inspector around the Baton Rouge area who is a little more liberal with issuance?

So you want to break the law?

If said crack is in your view, it may be hard to find someone unless they know you.

did you get orange sticker? They're always supposed to issue one if you failed and only place to get it removed is by the same inspector.
That's the law.
That's the law.

If they flagged it in the computer system it will prevent you from getting a tag anywhere else in the state until it is repaired.

I can't believe your car was even inspected. I can't remember ever having one even checked for blinkers or anything. Wherever I've gone, they just want insurance and registration and they go put on a new sticker without looking at anything at all.
It's just a money grab anyway.

I guess they're not real strict in Ecuador.

The shell station on College Drive right by the interstate is by far the most lenient and fast inspection sticker I've ever gotten.

Wow. Really? I have a hard time believing that. So many variables can happen where you can't take it to the same inspector. If true, that's a dumb law.

Your windshield CAN be cracked. The crack can't be in the drivers field of vision by some defined margin. I've read it before but I don't remember where it is. (Edit... it's below)
You can look it up and it'll tell you if you are correct or not. If you are correct, print out the law and bring it to the station. If they tell you to screw off, call LA Dept. of Public Safety and throw a fit. You'll get your sticker AND you'll be within your right.
LAC 55:III. Motor Vehicles, Chapter 8. Motor Vehicle Inspection
Windshields
1. Every passenger vehicle, other than a motorcycle, shall be equipped with an adequate windshield.
2. For inspection purposes, the windshield is composed of three (3) areas as follows.
a. Acute Area. The acute area is directly in the driver's line of vision in the center of the driver's critical area. It is 8 1/2" x 11", the size of a standard piece of paper. In this area no cracks are allowed. No more than two (2) stars, nicks, chips, bulls eyes or half moons in excess of one-half inch (1/2") will be allowed.
b. Critical Area. The critical area is the area other than the acute area which is cleaned by the normal sweep of the windshield wiper blades on the driver's side only. In this area, any star larger than two inches (2") in diameter; two (2) or more stars larger than one and one-half inches (1 1/2") in diameter and two (2) or more cracks which extend more than eight inches (8") in length will not be allowed.
c. Non-Critical Area. This area consists of all other windshield area other than the acute or critical area.
3. A windshield can be rejected at any time the condition creates a safety hazard. If a windshield is cracked in such a way as to jeopardize the integrity of the windshield, the vehicle is to be rejected.

I'm sure this will happen because no one ever throws fits at the DPS and so they'll get right on it.

How much is a new windshield vs how much is the fine if caught?

I have always been curious about this. Does anyone really think this is performing a public service?
Also, why do we need to register vehicles every year when they don't in fact change hands?

Louisiana is pretty much the only state outside of the Northeast that requires annual inspection on a vehicle from date of new purchase on vehicles regardless of situation.

Keeping unsafe cars off the road a public service? Nah. No way.
