BATON ROUGE — A grandmother has been found guilty in the 2022 death of her 4-year-old granddaughter, whose blood alcohol content was eight times the legal limit. A jury unanimously found the grandmother, Roxanne Record, 57, guilty of manslaughter in the death of 4-year-old China Record.

The toddler, China Record, was found dead inside a home on Wallis St. on April 21, 2022. The coroner ruled the child’s death as a homicide from ‘acute alcohol poisoning.’ Her blood alcohol content was 0.68, per police. That’s more than eight times the legal limit for an adult.

The little girl’s mother, Kadjah Record, now 32, and grandmother, were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder. On May 1, 2026, a jury unanimously found Roxanne Record guilty of a reduced charge for manslaughter. Meanwhile, the case against the child’s mother is still ongoing with the next court date scheduled for June 2026. It comes after she rejected the state’s offer.
