This may come as a news to you but police officers routinely respond to medical calls alongside firefighters and paramedics. Often the police officers are the first ones to enter the home as many such situations involve forced entry and/or unknown variables relating to the call. Firemen and paramedics aren't going in until they know it is safe for them. Amazing that this would have to be explained to you.

I must have grown up in a different place than you. Every time I have ever called 911 for a medical emergency, it's either the FD or EMS that shows up. The popo didn't come because there was no need for them to. When I broke my leg playing outside as a kid, the police didn't come and secure the scene before letting EMS through. Same thing with my neighbor having a heart attack or a kid at the country club getting recusitated at the pool from drowning.
Guess I need to check my #whiteprivilege at the door.
Eta- its interesting that you feel that the cops needed to be there though.

I never said police respond to all medical calls. I said "routinely" and "often". If it is strictly a medical call then police don't normally respond. However many calls involve patients "possibly" down inside of a house but the situation is largely unknown. In such situations where a person is down forced entry is routinely needed. In such situations police will go in first. Again it amazing you can't figure this out for yourself.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but do police officers perform medical exams? If they don't, do they observe them, even the rape kit? I wasnt aware it was one of their duties. Or are you suggesting that the doctors start wearing body cams too?

I don't know what she would expect. But if forced entry were needed to get into the home to help her then the police would most certainly be there.
