Did not know that? Was that established for the trooper in the 80's I believe?

No I understand that. If the scene isn't safe/secure of course they wait for police to arrive. But events can turn quickly. Example, EMS arrive on scene it looks safe and they begin to render first aid. All of sudden it escalates. People start to become physically aggressive towards them.
Often times you see this with gang incidents. Once they feel they received aid, EMS will attempt to transport them to the hospital and that's when the fight is on.

So why are the laws we have now adequate to protect the average citizen but not LEO/First Responders?

Well you're changing the conversation at hand. But I'll address it. A person signs up to be a LEO, EMS, fire, a doctor. They want to help and provide the community safety. Yes in some of there duties they have a reasonable chance or being assaulted and/or killed. Does it make it right to hold these public figures higher values then your everyday John Doe? Maybe no or yes? I see the laws established as a deterrent for people to not assault or hurt these public servants.

Generally speaking, no, but that's because of general popo/prosecutorial over reach. Examples include civil asset forfeiture, grand jury reform, the failed war on drugs, policing for profit, etc. Enforcing the law has become a business, and it was never meant to be.

If we have a set of laws they should apply equally to everyone, regardless of skin color or uniform or bank account.

I agree the judicial system is very corrupt. Funny that you mention that. I watched making a murderer for the first time. Very sickening watching the whole system be that corrupt.

Blue lives matter laws are just as stupid as hate crime laws. All they do is divide people and say that we are not all equal.

What's your take on it besides a broad statement like that?

This x100000000

More deification of the state. There are already enough laws on the books for this.

Hate crime laws are one of the worst things we've come up with in the justice system.

No. It's not ok. It's a crime already. If you assault a bum, postal worker, or a fireman it should be treated the same.

I'm sure this is probably false

Probably a pretty pointless law that puts more power into the hands of the government just made to make it look like the legislature is doing something proactive when they are making redundant laws.

It's definitely false. Has no one seen the first Rambo movie? But seriously, a bum's life isn't easy.

Why stop at LEO's and EMS? Why not teachers, postal carriers, garbage men, etc? All of these serve the public in hugely important ways, and in the case of garbage men face FAR HIGHER rates of being killed or injured on the job.

And you think if the laws against assaulting people in general aren't enough of a deterrent then this extra charge will magically make a criminal reconsider?
