I’m not going to install one of these so I can make $2.40 a year. Does that even buy a hamburger at macdonalds anymore?

Which, individually, would be, at current Bitcoin valuations, approximately $2.40 annually.
You can use the earnings to pay the META infrastructure increases coming to your Entergy bill.

I did not open any link to see what you can actually mine but at that TH/sec the probability to solo mine a block is once every 560 years. If it lets you pool mine then you are probably looking at less than 30 cents of bitcoin per day at current prices.

I would have thought with quantum computers and AI that all the bitcoin would be unlocked by now.

So is it hoping to get lucky or is it part of a pool of miners and you get a cut?
How the hell did that question warrant two downvotes?

Proof Of Work is the what you're missing. That's the mining side. Application side is developing. People thought it would be an alternative currency but it's not. It's more like property.

quote:But blockchain =/= Bitcoin.
The technology that underlies bitcoin can be used as permanent ledger for applications outside of currency.
This is more or less why Ethereum exists as well.
It's kind of like saying bank vaults have other uses besides storing and keeping records of gold.

Only crypto bros would create something that has no roi.
Most people are moving away from inefficient water heaters to use less electricity. This thing costs more than a hybrid heat pump water heater.
Your water heater doesn't run 80% of the time. More than likely you will be paying more to get less. Not counting upkeep etc to make sure it stays connected to the Internet etc. Failure rates of the electronics. Most of these rigs didn't last long enough to make your investment back.
Plus there are legal limits to what temp it can heat the water to.
