Better stand up comedy scene - New York or Los Angeles

Obviously based on before COVID 19...
For me it’s New York by far. Way more funny raw comedians, more mean/dark stand up. In New York it seems you have to be funny to make it. Even though you have some shite stains (Pete Davidson, all of SNL) the good comics outweigh the shitty.
Compare to Los Angeles that is more show biz centered. The rawness of NYC is gone in favor of a more sanitized version of Comedy. Stand up in LA seems more centered on being a platform to break into show biz. Which means less risk taking. There’s also this lame “we’re all in this together” vibe in LA that is not in New York.
What do you guys think?

And we saw Pete Davidson live at the cellar one night. He's a weird dude but he was pretty good on stage. On snl not so much.

New York probably has more variety but it’s hard to beat the big name lineup of the Comedy Store

As a whole, NY...but a random night at the Comedy Store in LA would beat any single random night in a NY club.

LA by a mile. You can only catch the master of standup at the Comedy & Magic Club on Sunday nights on one coast.
Jay Leno GOAT comedian.
Jay Leno GOAT comedian.

if we were talking about comedy clubs, it would be NYC. but since we're talking scene it is hands down LA because of the number of FREE shows with celebrity drop ins, just fricking high level comics woodshedding new material and trying to stay sharp.
there's a show in my old hood that had names like hannibal burress, patton oswalt, aziz, maron, dave attell, nick kroll every week. free attendance. BYOB. literally every tuesday outside a fish taco joint on the patio.
there was another in echo park that had maria bamford and all her friends
there was a monday night with kristen schaal, fred armisen and indie bands.
another in silver lake with pete holmes and his group.
another in hollywood with bill burr
and there is meltdown comics that had $7 shows full of people you see all over television now, but were standups before.

Second City in Chicago. Look at the casts of SNL over the years and there's so many more than anywhere else in the country. Toronto was big. LA's Groundlings are nowhere close to SC. NYC (SNL) always seemed to be the spot comedians would go after being in those other cities.
