I've never been to a pawn shop, but I hear you can find some pretty nice stuff sometimes. Are there good shops and bad shops? Which is the best for me to check out? Or am I likely to just find junk?

You have to know the price of what you want before going in. I've been keeping my eye out for a bench top belt/disc sander combo. I found one at a Pawn Shop and they wanted $120 for it, it looked brand new. I looked it up on my phone and a brand new same model from Harbor Freight was $79.99 and that's with warranty.
