Xanax. Ask your vet.
Xanax, labeled as Alprazolam by the vet, works well for a couple of our rescue dogs who are traumatized by fireworks and heavy thunder.

They still react a little to the noise but no longer GAF.

As a bonus Alprazolam turns the most skittish dog into my stoner college roommate. He's weird, funny and hungry while on it.

My outside dog sleeps in my shop. I just turn up the stereo and let it play all night.

this ^^^^^^

they just need counter noises going on so it doesnt spook them between momentary silences

a stereo or TV set and a volume of loud talking is all it takes and if you are staying home, just keeping them in your arms is usually enough to reassure them its safe
