Especially when I'm the only guy behind them. If they had just gone, the person would have gotten out in almost exactly the same amount of time they took to recognize an idiot was waving them out.

I honestly think this was a bad consequence of improvement in cars/ automatic transmissions. It's basically boring to drive a vehicle now, so people need more stimulation. And they turn to their phone.
If we were all driving standard transmissions, nobody would be scrolling on their phone.
Self-driving cars will solve this problem, but further deepen another problem, which is the fact that nobody knows where the hell they are going anymore because of Google Maps.

Dude. I was on my way to Alexandria last Saturday. As I was approaching the Lobdell exit, there was a noticeable slow down due to several vehicles getting off which I accounted for. There was also a white SUV in the shoulder just before the exit with it's left blinker on. The car in front me, while still in the right lane on the interstate, abruptly came to a stop to let the SUV in from the shoulder. I had to slam the brakes on the interstate. Some people have zero sense.

This is why I don't let anybody in; I want them to run up to the front and get in via zipper merge. Better for everybody.
