The two men in this photograph are Technical Sergeant William E. Thomas and Private First Class Joseph Jackson of the 333rd Field Artillery Battalion, but at the time of the photograph were part of the 969th Artillery Battalion. Scrawling such messages on artillery shells in World War II was one way in which artillery soldiers could humorously express their dislike of the enemy.

This photo was taken at the time of the Battle of Remagen. It holds a very special place in my heart as not only am I an artilleryman by trade, these guys were in one of the FA battalions supporting my grandfather's Infantry Battalion, 2nd of the 309th of the 78th Infantry division, Lightning. This photo was taken March 10th, 1945

There will never be a war like it. More advanced technologically than WW1 but not as precise as it is today. Truly a man vs machine war.

Unfortunately I don't.

Edit: found it

Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Joseph Drexel Biddle used to order his troops to surround him with bayonets before single-handedly disarming each of them—supposedly quite calmly—without any of his own weapons. This photo of one such demonstration was taken in 1943.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the American government issued Mickey Mouse gas masks in case of a chemical attack. The idea was to make them seem less scary, but they clearly had the opposite effect.
