Small business owner here in BR. My health insurance broker told me that BCBS is behind this SB 16 bill trying to ban level-funded plans in the state for employers under 50 full time.

This seems like some BS and monopolistic behavior to me. Any opinions on this? I can’t see this being a good thing.

Big insurance will lobby hard against anything that may cause them to lose a penny. This is nothing new.

It’s like a like a self insured plan that is underwritten. My understanding is the stop loss protects me from unexpected claims. I’m paying half of what I was paying at BCBS since I switched.

So who’s your insurance with? I have no issues with BCBS other than the premium. Would love alternatives.

I’m with Allstate. They apparently have a small group plan. It’s been working fine.

Not totally germane to the op but I am having my group benefits guy quote me the other options - my bcbsla group premium took a huge jump this year.

I still do not totally understand the push BCBSLA was making to change its organizational form.

Well I guess I see why the insurance companies want this stopped!

See, I see stuff like this, and then I hear how "trial lawyers" are the reason insurance is expensive.

There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes the public is not informed about. Dirty business.
