Yes, I know, don’t ... but if I did ...

(1) if you have had both saltwater and traditional pools, which do you prefer and why, and what is the additional cost to the build of doing saltwater over bleach/chlorine tablet system? Pool builder recommends against saltwater but his only reason is rusting of nearby metal. On troublefreepool, nobody has ever had rusting metal. I need ease of upkeep.
(2) do I need an ozone/uv thing? $3000 adder. Pool builder included it in quote without me asking for it, but troublefreepools says unnecessary. The fact that pool builder is adding it to quote makes me question his trustworthiness, and, yes, he is a prominent, highly recommended pool builder in BR.
(3) I’m struggling with pool decking. I don’t like the way cool deck looks, and I don’t want to have to seal anything. If I do travertine unsealed, can I still have a salt chlorine generator? Has anyone used peacock pavers or FireRock concrete pavers? Pool builder also strongly recommends against these but doesn’t really explain why. I think he makes more profit selling travertine...
(4) Finally, any things you wish you did or didn’t do in retrospect?

I have unsealed travertine and it’s fine. I have salt as well. I would go with salt just cause it’s more automatic not because it’s leaps and bounds better. Will the salt rust some medal chairs sure but that is easily avoided when you buy your furniture.

Traditional pool with an ozone generator. I use about three tablets of chlorine a week in Summer and about 2 in winter.
The troublefree pool people are against the ozone generators, but I have not had any problems.

My deck is the peagravel.

Pool is three years old. In Katy and Not Baton Rouge but the same climate.

A) Always get an above ground first. Always. People never realise just how much work they are until they have one, also a much smaller investment and easier to get rid, Especially when your family doesn't use it as much as you planned.

B) Yes, absolutely do saltwater. Chemicals are cheaper, and easier to deal with.

C) no you don't need the stupid Ozone/UV thing

D) I wish I didn't get a pool, I even knew better.

I went with ozone and have been pleased with it. Allows me to use less chlorine. I started out using TFP but it took too much work. Started using automatic chlorine thing on lowest setting with ozone and have very little maintenance. If you plan on maintaining yourself, I would suggest using TFP at first to get used to how to control your numbers. Then start using tablets slowly.

Wish I would have put more skimmers and variable speed pump.

As far as builder, I got bids from all the major guys in BR. Went with Keith Russell and was very pleased. Without getting into too many details, he looked out for me with subs and an overzealous architect on several occasions.

I had traditional size one, would prefer the small pool that allows you to swim against a current, would realistically be used.

Get all the waterfalls and features in the original pool build. Add ons later are a pain in the rump.

Did you get any good feedback about the pavers? I’m thinking of using
Firerock pavers also. Who is the pool builder that doesn’t like them?

I would find another builder based on 1 and 2. We have a SW pool that has been in place for a long time (we just bought a couple years ago) and there's no sign of any rusting of anything.
