Baton Rouge General - Florida Street hospital reopening mid city ER Permenantly

The emergency room was closed five years ago.
While the hospital remained open (and actually took in a lot of Covid patients), the ER was shut down 5 years ago as the trauma infrastructure moved to the massive OLOL campus on Essen Lane.

I didn't want to say that so specifically...but yeah. LSU moved everything to OLOL and shut down EKL for very good reasons. Those patients were expected to flow to OLOL, and they do.

Are you talking about BRG? OLOL never shut down. It's always been a massive regional center (1000+ beds, Trauma Center, multiple helipads, etc.).
BRG - mid city is a smaller neighborhood hospital that had to shut down their ER shortly after EKL was finally closed.

5 years or so ago after EKL went away, those Caid Patients were going to BRG, the mass influx cause BRG Mid City to close their ED. I imagine BRG has a deal with the state to reopen to reimburse them when indigent patients start showing up again

They closed because too many uninsured patients were going there instead of OLOL because it was the closest option and most weren't paying for it anyway. BRG was having to eat the cost.

BRG reimbursement rate was too low so the ER was bleeding money. Now the state have federal dollars to throw around. 1.2 Billion from the Care's Act. Already blown thru $110mil from the N.O convention center.

Lots of emergency pregnancy tests and vd tests will be administered. For a hospital that barely kept its doors opened and couldn't afford to buy PPE for its staff they sure do seem eager to reopen an emergency room that lost money.

There was never a shortage of ppe at midcity. Navy supplied their own and anyone who asked for masks, face shields, gowns were given them.
