How long does an MRI of the brain, more specifically the pituitary gland take.

Also when could I expect results.

I am getting one done on Friday through the VA so I’m better off safe asking on here than what through them

45min give or take

As for the results, that depends on how soon it's read by radiologist, results sent to ordering physician and then released to your records.

I'd plan on a few days post scan.

Thanks

Needless to say the va didn’t describe the process to me, just sent me a questionnaire asking if I felt claustrophobic and other things

No problem

It's probably an open MRI, but being the VA you never know.

If you get claustrophobic at times, bring a family member and they will give you some Ativan to take the edge off.

45 min for the test I agree, but if he's gotta wait on the VA for results...sometime after this fb season?

They give you earphones to listen to music sometimes. It can be noisy too. I have had 2 brain MRIs and try to relax and breath and not move around or it has to be redone.

VA may have you go to a freestanding center, we did a bunch for them in our open. Otherwise, what they said. I have heard some crazy turnaround times for reads lately.
If only doing pituitary in a 3T, scan time might actually be shorter.

It's worth a shot, and totally within your rights...but bring a blank dvd/disc/thumbdrive with you and tell them you want a copy as well.
I did this so I would have it to send to other physicians for 2nd opinions.

But of the equipment is fairly recent, they should be able to email the file to the dr who will read it and write his findings.

I've had a bunch of MRIs. Other than the one where I fell asleep and started twitching they all took around 45 minutes

Including wait time, 30 minutes to an hour. The scan itself takes maybe ten minutes. Depending on how urgent the matter is you can know that day or the day after.
