Advocate Article

Nothing I like more than a healthy dose of carbon monoxide with my popcorn and hotdog at Alex Box.

(You can still voice your opposition by email if you are so inclined--see the article.)

You think so? I don't. LSU and BREC, among others, are pretty concerned about this for good reason.

What scrubbers will this barge cleaning company have in place?

What is the record of this company when it comes to environmental infractions?

What besides basically harmless levels of carbon monoxide will they be releasing?

It looks like only about 198 chemicals, give or take a few hundred tons. Benzene, chloroform, black death...you know, nothing that good ole Louisianians give a crap about when it comes to their flagship university and nearby communities.

The facility expects to release pollution including 10 tons of nitrogen oxide, 49 tons of carbon monoxide and 15 tons of volatile organic compounds a year, according to the permit application.

I think the writer got bad info. If the facility is supposed to be a minor source for air pollutants, it's not emitting what this quote says. A minor source emits less than 25 TPY of combined emissions.

Whole article is full of hyperbole.

ETA: unless those numbers are with 0% control efficiency, which would not be the case here because of the two flares discussed and probably other things that weren't mentioned.

I am willing to bet the University releases a majority of those 198 chemicals at different times.

Hell, LSU has a cooling tower in the middle of campus that students walk feet from. Those frickers are more deadly than whatever comes from that site.

Sounds like the residents are dragging LSU into the fight because they know they don't have a leg to stand on.

Amy Wold is an environmentalist. Go figure. The OP bought LEAN's bullshite hook line and sinker. Their message usually resonates well with people who are easily deceived (a lot of bored housewives).

They are the Al Sharpton of the environmental world. My opinion only.

I hope they don't release dihydrogen monoxide vapor. That's a pretty bad chemical from what I hear.

I have a house in riverbend and the HOA is spamming my email for people to advocate against it. Personally I don't think its a big deal, just another thing for old people to complain about
