I got both shoulders cortisone injected today, and PT to follow. What can I expect?

Anybody have any luck with the shots? Both shoulders have torn cuffs, bone spurs, etc.

Also, any recommendations for shoulder surgeon? This is my first rodeo.

Thanks for posting your thoughts.

I have friends that do Shoulder surgeries and the one thing they always say is to never get cortisone shots. They recommend a good physical therapist and attempts at rehab before surgery

Should have taken de-wormer from the Tractor Supply store instead.

The best treatment is 2 chicks at the same time.

I’m a PT. I’ll need to get my fingers on you and feel around a bit before I could give sound advice.

I’d also need to look at your shoulders.

Look to your right quickly there is a shiny object and you should be outraged by it and call it names to make you feel better about yourself.

I’ll follow this thread. My right shoulder is out. I’ve been trying to ignore it for about 6 months but it’s about time I have to do something. I’ve self diagnosed myself with a torn rotator cuff.

i went to dr. scott buhler at crescent city orthopedics to have surgery on both my rotator cuffs LINK

then i went to orthopedic sports therapy for my PT and can highly recommend both but whoever your insurance is decides who does the PT.

my first surgery was march 5th and 6-8 weeks later you start PT, my second surgery was only after the PT said i was back to a level they considered normal. i now have a month left of PT before im finally officially done.

but you will have pain and shoulders hurting for at least another year after they say you are done. it just takes a long time for that to go away they said

whats in store for you is about 8-9 months start to finish as each shoulder must be done one at a time and then PT before they do the other one so you always have one good arm.

the hardest part, besides trying to wipe myself left handed lol, is sleeping sitting upright so i wish i had bought a recliner, that would have helped me a lot. if you are wondering, try wiping with your left hand next time you go and you will understand its a big learning curve to not make a huge mess

one more thing, it seems everyone has one that was like nothing and the other one hurts like hell when they do it. there is no rhyme or reason to which one hurts or which one is done first, they just said everyone has the same thing with one hardly hurts and the other you will definitely need those pain pills

All you’re doing is masking the issues

Might as well schedule surgery now

I had bursitis in my left shoulder a few years back. Doc offered up the cortisone shot but I didn't want it... Did the PT instead. It took a couple months but the shoulder got better.
Had tendonitis / trigger finger in left thumb. I took the cortisone shot for that. It hurt like hell, but the thumb was much much better within 24 hours, and has stayed mostly good since (that was maybe 5 years ago).

I'm starting to have problems with the right shoulder. I think I will take the cortisone if that is an option.

Wame Waggenspack at BROC.
Did my right shoulder last September, labrum, rotator, bicep tendon, bone spurs, etc. In a pillow sling for a few weeks then normal sling for another couple months. PT for 4 months, then did it at home. I'm finally getting some REAL strength back in it and can toss a tennis ball.

He's doing my left shoulder on Friday.

I had a partial tore cuff, bone spur, and a torn bicep on the same shoulder. Did the cortisone shot and it gave “some” relief for 2 weeks. Then the pain came back worse. The dr gave me the option of to deal with it or fix it. I fixed it and I’m glad I did. Don’t screw around with a shoulder. Get it fixed if you can

Don’t put it off. I toughed it out for 3 months because I though it would go away. And I made it way worse. Go get looked at

Friday will be my 12th orthopedic surgery. Shoulders are by far the worst pain I've experienced, followed closely by a buldging disc. Only difference is I can usually find a less painful position for my shoulder.

ETA: I second the recliner for sleeping. Even better is what I did and bought an adjustable base bed. Life changer.

Dr. Chip Bankston at the Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic on Bluebonnet. I had shoulder replacement surgery on May 19th and was out and about in no time.
