Thanks for the warning. We’ll be sure not to do business at that place.

A. I know of maybe 2 repair shops out of 20 who keep their repairs under cover, & they fix like 20 mowers a year, not 1000+ like most larger shops.

B. 2 weeks? You do realize most shops are at 3-4 weeks minimum right now eh? I know a few who are at almost 2 months on anything beyond a tune-up. This is what happens when everyone waits until their grass is 2 ft tall to break their poorly stored mower out.

Nature of the beast dude...

I'm not sure why the majority of people in here think that returning your machine in worst shape, in any way, than you gave it to them, is okay.

And dropping it off on your land without any heads up is just bad fricking practice. What is wrong with you people?

I never said worse shape is acceptable, your mower is MADE to withstand much more than 2 weeks of being outside. My practice would be to fully wash everything that goes through my shop either way.
Was it arranged at some point earlier to drop it off on that date? Did the OP not bother to answer his phone? I'm just saying, I was in retail management for a while, customers are extremely unrealistic.

I think that these are fair points/questions. However, I think that he would be doing this business a favor by letting them know about his experience. I don't think that the OP is trying to get reparations or anything.

You should have just had your husband repair the mower.

ITs a lawnmower- did you want them to do a complete detail?

Just call the owner and politely tell him that you expected a higher level of service. If this is what their standard is you will take your business elsewhere

He will politely respond "OK"

Mowers are designed to sit outside.
I understand some people do not like this yet the mower can easily take being outside for months.

Two weeks is not that bad.
I retired last month and I owed 4 repair centers.
We avg 400 to 600 mowers a month each shop as we had extended warranty contracts.
We kept everything inside to reduce theft.
Most shops in Louisiana do not have room to keep their riding mowers inside.

If they actually fixed the mower that is what I would be more worried about.

I seen some shops in South Louisiana that keep mowers outside for months that get overloaded with extended warranty work. Two weeks is not that bad going into the season.

I can work on a lot of things but My fat fingers can’t work on a carburetor. If it needs rebuilt I have to pay someone.

It is not hard a lot of times the fuel solenoid switch gets stuck. Take it out clean it and put it back in. If you have to clean it not that hard.
A busier shop sometimes just replaces the carb versus rebuild as labor cost outweighs our parts cost.

Never heard of a repair shop that keeps them under a cover.

Never heard of one who fixes them that fast.

Never heard of one who delivers it back to you.

My push mower was running a little rough and quit on me one day. A couple Hispanic fellas were on break clearing land across the street from me. They come over and offer to take a look. I say sure, so they start messing around with it. Well, one of them cranks it up and is holding the handle and I guess the other one wanted to see if something was wrapped around the rotor shaft so he stickers his hand down under the deck and.... thump.....

Cut about halfway through his middle and ring fingers. Called 911 and he went to the hospital. Tried to get his companies name and contact info from his buddy, but he wasn’t talking. He later left a note apologizing and telling me not to worry about it and he was fine. I’m pretty sure they didn’t want the boss man finding out they were making some cash on the side during break.

He must have been fine cause he was back the next day 20 ft up in a tree with a chainsaw.

Most shops that do residential extended warranty work have this option. They get paid to pick it up and return it.

2 weeks is not bad going into the season. Right now most shops that deal with residential customers can be up to 4 weeks out as it is the busy season with 90% carb work related to fuel sitting in the unit from the fall.

Larger shops advantage most are in larger wearhouses. Service turnaround can be slower.
Disadvantage you do not get personalized service.

Small shop
Usually quicker turnaround
They check work on grass around the shop
Intermittent issues they have a better chance of finding it as they spend more time on a mower.

Seems like this guys taking a lot of shite here hell he already dropped off his mower to get fixed and they left it outside to get rained on. It’s never ideal to leave a mower outside to get rained on that makes no sense at all
