just came from the Endymion meeting. We will have to keep very close watch on the weather.

Well there is a surprise. Endymion is the king of canceling due to weather threats.

Actually, until covid, Endymion was the only major parade that had never been cancelled because it paraded in Kenner the year of the police strike in 1979.
We paraded in the rain a couple of times and one year we had to follow Bacchus on Sunday night because of rain on Saturday. That was the first parade after Katrina and was probably the biggest parade night in the history of Mardi Gras.

LSU undergrad and Houston Grad School here. Been riding Endymion for 12 years and it never gets old. Still get that same high rolling into the Dome just like it's the very first time. not sure about Baccus but rode Orpheus a few times and there's no comparison.

Hail Endymion

Endymion is for guys from Lutcher, LA, who went to community college to play baseball but dropped out because the coach was "out to get them."

They have thin linebeards and sound like they're from Marrero.

It's disgusting.

Odd take. I’ve been riding for 23 years and the guys on my float are mostly business men with their own companies and frick you money. But I guess whatever you think.

To OP: I use to ride in Bacchus, my grandpaw is one of the 12 original “apostles” who started Bacchus. He was roommates with Pip Brennan at LSU. The Brennans are the owners of Bacchus. So CSB. But I switched to Endymion with my Dad. It’s a younger organization, our Balls are bigger and funnier. The entertainment is always better. The superdome is better than the convention center. The Mid-City route is the Goat. Crowds are bigger, Floats are bigger, Bands are better.
Bacchus is cheaper, better celebrity king/grand Marshall, has better costumes, better themes, more detailed floats, better Krewe throws, and better leadership.

It’s all a preference, but I found Endymion an overall funnier organization. IMO since I’ve spent so much time around both.

Been to both a few times. as a 3rd party that is going to just the ball for entertainment, Endymion is hard to beat.

bachuus is more traditional, but Endymion is a giant party.

I'd take the Thoth route over the Mid City route, but I bet there is probably not much that can compare to the moment Endymion rolls into the Dome.

Which years, specifically, has Endymion ever cancelled due to weather?

best part growing up in midcity was there was more than just Endymion on the route back then - and for a while in the 90s they had that big party of the neutral ground on Orleans and then we could walk to the mid city parade the next day.

Or if we went to my uncle’s uptown - he lived on the Thoth route and was in Thoth - that was a lot of fun too

That’s why I cant understand people’s disdain for Mardi Gras, you gotta make it fun for yourself

It's basically the same parade on a different day with a different route.

Orleans Ave is by far the coolest part of the route. The people on the neutral ground are 50yds deep.
Nothing compares to rolling into the dome. The chicks are hotter, the music is better, the light show is awesome, the circle route with the sea of people is amazing.

I’ve rode uptown plenty and been through the convention center. Uptown is nice, but it’s the same route for everyone. Mid-City is unique.
I prefer the Mid-City route 10/10.
Convention Center is terrible. They’re not even comparable. The ride is different, the crowd is different. Just a boring place.

Except for Thoth

The ride from Tchoupitoulas to Henry Clay and on Magazine from Henry Clay to Jefferson (where a number of other Uptown parades start) is my favorite part of the route.

Had the City forced Thoth on to the traditional Uptown route like every other parade like was floated a couple of years ago, I probably would have considered quitting riding.

Good overview. One is the original. Other is a copy but big. Reason why one is on the Avenue.

Let me rephrase what I meant, Canceling the parade for the scheduled night and having to go on another night. They did it in 06, 11, would have in 12 but the city told them either they roll on sat or don’t roll at all. And almost in 17. Every year with a threat of rain they want to pull the plug. All that shite is waterproof. It seems like most years if there is a threat of rain, we wait around till last min to decide if we are going to roll or not.

Be honest - have y'all ever met an Endymion member who had a college degree from an SEC school, much less an elite institution? The answer is no. It's really no different than the truck parades, but they add a bunch of flashing lights on the floats and put it on a different route.

Found the guy whose membership application was denied….

You don’t know Jack shite about the members of Endymion…

Edit to add…. Reading most of your post on here, you seem to have something personal against Endymion. I was actually joke about the application denial, but I’m starting to think it may be true….

Not even close. Drew Brees was King of Bacchus and is riding with the Krewe again on Sunday.

WTF does that have to do with anything….

Lane Kiffin is riding in Endymion… Who cares….

We get it dude, you love Bacchus more than Endymion, but this seems very personal to you for some odd reason.
